Only a few kids surviving Auschwitz remember being visited by smiling uncle Mengele who would bring them candy and clothes.

Monowitz was mainly a labor camp. They had multiple factories that were essential to the German war effort. The chance for survival in Monowitz were high due to the fact that you were valuable to them then sending you to the gas chambers during the work labors over 10,000 workers died, and the others we tortured by the guards and those who couldn't work anymore were sent to Auchwaitz 1 or 2 to be murdered in the gas chambers. After WW2 the factories were believed to still be operating. Today they are just there.
